Guide to the Atlean Islands.

History
In 1997, the UN unveiled the Atlean Islands, their latest project in an effort to strengthen global ties, all while harnessing the potential in our parahuman population. It was named as such to the perculiar shape of the island clusters, resembling pieces of segmented land which might otherwise fit seamlessly.

The heart of the Atlean Islands is Prometheus Institute, a facility built to provide education to the world's parahuman youths, teaching them how to properly use their powers and encouraging them to use their powers for good. The Atlean Island, however, was not meant to be only a school. The parahuman populace of the world is encouraged to attend Prometheus, and most governments sponsor the enrollment of identified parahumans.

While Prometheus Institute occupied the whole of an island, two others became self-contained cities and towns. Crona City became the financial centre of the cluster, while the town of Ios is becomes a housing estate of sorts, to accommodate an expected 2,000,000.

Both Crona and Ios are designed to partially support the cost of operating Prometheus High, as well as house families of enlisted students should they desire it. However, the Atlean Islands took an unexpected turn and instead become a blooming new global economic centre. As such, the other islands were to be converted to cities and towns, and their numbers may still be increasing.

Government
As the Atlean Islands is not a nation by itself, cities and towns are run by mayors who report to a special branch of the UN in charge of governing matters in the islands. All passports are recognized by its customs. While most nations have an embassy, they are all officed in a single building called the Embassy Tower.

Given the United States of America's vast contribution, many of the laws were written by US diplomats, and as such is similar to that of the US judiciary system. Democracy is present in the form of enlisting mayors as a bridge from the UN to the residents. There are challenges to gun control, but the parahuman presence can be a threat to regular citizens and as the UN has decided to retain its liberal stance.

Urban Planning
Though there are numerous islands in the cluster, the UN wanted to maximize land usage as individual islands have limited space. Many of the islands denies access to regular residents for reasons unknown. To fulfill that objective, urban planners from densely populated countries like Singapore and Hong Kong were employed as the circumstance is similar to their home nations. An exception may be the town of Reia, whose residents have voted for a suburban environment.

Each island is self contained with basic infrastructure present in every city and town. Specialized infrastructure only exist in a few islands, examples being the airport at Crona City and the harbour at Ios. Most residents live in apartmental flats, with the aformented exception being composed of houses instead.

All developed islands are linked together via suspension bridge although travel by ferry is not uncommon.

Crime
Crime is not unknown in the Atlean Islands. Crona City has one of the highest crime rates in the world, and the bulk of criminal activity on the clusters. Studies have shown that the Atlean Islands are more likely to have people with the intent of comitting crime against humanity. Paradoxically, however, elimination of criminal activity in the Islands is also known to be one of the most effective.

Because of the concentrated parahuman population, a special police force called the Rogue Parahuman Control and Elimination Squad (RPCE) was formed to reinforce regular police forces. Its effectiveness has prompted a branch in every major city in the world.

Geography
The Atlean Islands are located in the middle of the North Pacific Ocean. It is a cluster of islands connected by suspension bridges with Prometheus High in the middle of the cluster. Physical landsforms are diverse, ranging from deserts to jungles, caves to mountains. It has a small agricultural industry, which sustains the food majority of rice supplies to the residents. Toursim-wise, it is fast growing as a center of economic development as people throught the world visit and is thus diverse in ethnic and religious density.

Climate
The Atlean Islands experience all four seasons. Temperature ranges from -2 degrees celcius in winter and 35 degrees celsius in summer. Being located in the tropics, it experiences both dry seasona and wet seasons, during which rainfall can range from less than 0.25 mm/hour to more than 50.0 mm/hour.

QUESTION! Is it possible to become the leader of a city politically? As in without having to take over by using subtle illegal tactics or sheer hostile take over usually involving explosions, guns, or ZOMGWTFISTHATTHINGz invading.

Yes, I will be expanding it, but for now, I'm exhausted. Anyone who has anymore ideas can come to me.

And about being a mayor... No, you will have to be elected.
